Getting started

What is Colony?

Colony turns the people at a live event into a game worth playing: scan QR codes in person to connect, complete quests, show up to check points, and climb a leaderboard that spans the whole season, not just one event.

How do I sign up?

One tap: Sign in with Google. No form to fill in, no password to remember.

Do I need a crypto wallet?

No. You can play, earn points and complete almost every quest without one. The one quest that does involve a wallet — Verify Wallet — lets you log in with just an email and creates one for you on the spot, zero crypto experience required.

Does it cost anything to join?

Nothing. Signing up, bumping, completing quests and checking in are all free.

I'm not at an event right now — is there anything to do?

Yes. Colony Season is always open: a year-long track that runs independent of any single event, with its own quests and leaderboard.

Bump & points

What's a Bump?

Two people scan each other's QR code, in person, at the same moment. The connection is recorded and both sides earn points — no middleman, nothing to ask for.

How does scoring work — event points vs. season points?

Every event runs its own scoreboard. A share of what you earn there also lands on the always-open Colony Season track, so grinding one event still moves your year-long ranking — and showing up to more cities pays a bonus of its own.

Can I exchange points for cash or prizes?

Points aren't a currency you spend — they decide your rank. Each event sets its own prize pool and its own rules for who wins what; check that event's own Prizes page.

My friend and I did about the same amount — why is my score lower?

A few things move the number besides raw activity: an attendance bonus for proving you're physically there, bumping a KOL for a bigger reward, and referrals, which are worth more than almost anything else on the board.

Quests

What kinds of quests are there?

Everything from following an X account to uploading a photo at a booth to a live Kahoot-style quiz. Some complete instantly, some need a quick admin review, some are entered-now-drawn-later.

I submitted a quest and want to fix it — can I?

If it's still pending review, no — wait for the decision. If it was rejected, most reviewed types let you submit again with a corrected answer.

How long does a reviewed quest take?

There's no fixed wait — an admin reviews it by hand. Turn on notifications and you'll hear the moment it's decided, whichever way.

Check points

What's a check point, and how does it know I'm really there?

A physical QR code placed somewhere in the venue or city. Scanning it checks your GPS distance from that exact spot — you have to actually be standing there, not just near a screen.

My location keeps failing — what do I do?

Make sure location permission is on and you're not somewhere the GPS signal is weak; some check points also allow a margin for exactly that. Still stuck? Find event staff at the check point.

Colony (community)

What's the difference between an event and a Colony?

An event has a start and an end date. A Colony doesn't — it's the group of people you actually want to stay in touch with after the event is long over, with its own quests, leaderboard and message board.

Do Colony quests pay the same points as event quests?

No, by design. A Colony quest lights up your Colony for the day — the same as the daily ignite button — it never mints the points that count toward Colony Season. That keeps community activity and the competitive leaderboard two separate things.

Can I start my own Colony?

Yes — any member can create one from the app. It goes live after a quick review.

Live Quiz

What's the live Quiz?

A Kahoot-style quiz run during an event: questions appear on a big screen, you answer from your phone as fast as you can, and the top three finishers win points.

Prizes & fair play

How do I claim a prize, and when are winners announced?

It depends on the event — check that event's own Prizes page for its pool and timeline. Some prizes draw winners live, on stage.

Can people cheat the leaderboard?

Core points are deliberately hard to fake: a Bump QR expires every 50–100 seconds, so a forwarded screenshot is already dead by the time anyone uses it, and check-ins are GPS-verified. We also watch for abuse behind the scenes.

Privacy

Who sees my information?

Your name, email and whatever you add to your profile are used for event rewards, prize fulfilment and community updates — and may be shared with the sponsors and partners whose check points or quests you actually engage with. You can request deletion at any time.

For organizers & sponsors

I run events, or I'm a sponsor — can I use Colony?

Colony already powers multi-day conferences and watch parties across several countries. We're not yet taking self-serve sign-ups for organizers or sponsors — more on this soon.
